The Bridge understands that much of the newly-built Berwick Community Hospital, the new name for Berwick Infirmary, will be taken down as part of ‘remedial’ works by the new contractor.
Sources close to the construction say that a contractor has been appointed to carry out the work, which is understood to include a large amount of dismantling of the build.
When the idea of demolition was put to the project’s spokesperson the response was ‘absolutely not’.
The building has been beset by problems since ground was first broken in early 2023.  Most recently the main contractor went into liquidation after two years’ work on the project.

The Northumberland County Council Health and Wellbeing Overview Scrutiny Committee (OSC) will meet tomorrow.
It is understood that the continued leadership of the £35 million project, which is being run by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, may be in doubt.
When asked if ‘the same personnel are to remain in place as project leaders’, Chair of the OSC, Cllr Georgina Hill told The Bridge: ‘This will be one of the key questions at the scrutiny meeting‘.
   Updates to follow.
