The Town Clerk, Gareth Davies, is currently on sick leave which has led to Berwick Town Council’s public opening-hours being reduced to two days per week.

In the absence of the Proper Officer the role has been delegated to Mayor Councillor John Robertson in the Town Clerk’s absence.

The Proper Officer is a necessary role for carrying out certain administrative functions as required by statute. Functions of a proper officer include receiving or giving notices, certifying or authenticating documents, keeping registers, and issuing summonses for meetings.

At an Extraordinary Council Meeting on 11 July the allocated role was voted through with Deputy Mayor, Councillor Graham Brown to step up in the event the Mayor is unavailable.
