‘They’re always very, very nice about the programme,’ said Brenda Blethyn about the people she met in the North East while filming Vera, ‘but sometimes they’re a bit bewildered, because Vera might go through a door in Newcastle, and come out the other side in Berwick! That’s the magic of filming,’
Ms Blethyn commented on her long-running role as the North East TV detective, Vera, while in conversation in Newcastle City Hall in March where she was interviewed by Steph McGovern alongside the author Ann Cleeves who created the character of Vera. The event was raising funds for an adventure playground.
The final and 56th episode of Vera aired in January, having been in the TV schedules since 2011.
Ms Blethyn said earlier this year she could be open to reprising the role a one-off production. ‘A special would be nice. It’s definitely one of my favourite roles I’ve done. I love the character.’
