London-based artist Matthew Rosier will film Berwickers for an installation artwork at Berwick Barracks as the building is to be transformed into a living parade featuring local groups.
‘In a brand new light commission for Berwick’s Living Barracks, artist Matthew Rosier will bring his unique brand of filmmaking to town and you’re invited to take part,’ states the announcement on The Maltings website. ‘Meet Matthew and find out how you can be part of Berwick Parade at one of our free information sessions at The Maltings.’
‘Berwick Parade’ has been commissioned by The Maltings (Berwick) Trust on behalf of Create Berwick – a five year initiative supported by the North East Combined Authority (former North of Tyne Combined Authority) and Northumberland County Council and through The Cultural Development Fund, a department for Digital Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) fund administered by Arts Council England.
The budget offered for the work, as reported in The Bridge Issue #16, was £50,000.
”Berwick Parade’ will utilise giant scale projections on three walls of Berwick Barracks as members of the town’s diverse community march around the square in an immersive experience,’ according to a post on Berwick Shines Instagram page here
‘The commission is part of Berwick Shines, the Living Barracks Cultural Development programme delivered by The Maltings, and supports the wider Living Barracks project to restore and renew this historic site that has played a pivotal role in the town’s social and cultural life for centuries.’
The finished work will be open to all to view at the Barracks, free, from 28 February to 2 March 2025.
Information sessions for interested groups take place throughout the day on 21 November at The Maltings. Book places for the sessions here.
