The owners of two Berwick hotels, the Queen’s Head, Sandgate and the Castle Hotel, Castlegate have acquired the Hen & Chickens Hotel in Sandgate, Berwick on Tweed.
Jo Rigby, Area Manager of the new owners, Ipswich-based GR Hotels, is a born-and-bred Berwicker (born at Castlehills, no less) and she confirmed the acquisition to The Bridge.
‘We’ve been super-busy and there’s a need for more hotel beds in Berwick generally. We hope to create up to 19 bedrooms in the Hen and Chickens. We’re also adding two new rooms to the Queen’s Head in Sandgate.’
The hotel was last operational in 2010. The opening is anticipated for Spring 2026.

I’m assuming this is one for the Hen & Chickens. It’s owned by the Queen’s Head/Castle Hotel owners. They would probably be best-placed to update. What I did know is that there won’t be any public areas as it will only be rooms.
