In our recent issue of The Bridge, a recipe included Jersey Royal potato leaves as an ingredient. Please note that potato leaves are not safe to eat and can be toxic.

This was an editorial oversight. We strongly advise readers not to consume any part of the potato plant other than the tuber (the potato itself).

A reader of The Bridge got in touch to point out that potato leaves in general are toxic, INCLUDING Jersey Royal potato leaves.
David Foxton, who suggested using the leaves in salads, has since revised this and said: ‘I withdraw the suggestion altogether to avoid any confusion.’

The main producer of Jersey Royal potatoes on Jersey, Doug Richardson, told The Bridge that he agrees.
‘I’ve been producing Jersey Royals for 40 years and never heard that about eating leaves.
‘Jersey Royal potatoes, however, are an amazing potato.’
